Books for Homeschooling

Does anyone have any recommendations for books to learn more about homeschooling?

Thanks,

For Science books

For science books I want to use a bunch of different series with different view points. Since I learned about evolution in school, but now am a creationist. I'm interested in studying more about what discoveries have been made that highlight this. The Institute of Creation Research (www.icr.org) has some kids books that I want to get.

Child Development books

You can check out teacher resource books or child psychology books and get insights into child development.

For learning about the young child I liked 'What's Going on in There? : How the Brain and Mind Develop in the First Five Years of Life' by Lise Eliot

for older children I liked 'Raising Your Spirited Child: A Guide for Parents Whose Child Is More Intense, Sensitive, Perceptive, Persistent, Energetic' by Mary Sheedy Kurcinka

and for teens I liked 'From Magical Child to Magical Teen: A Guide to Adolescent Development' by Joseph Chilton Pearce

More Books

For maintaining a budget look at 'Home schooling on a shoestring' by Melissa Morgan

and I like 'The homeschooling book of answers : the 88 most important questions answered by homeschooling's most respected voices' by Linda Dobson

Books for Homeschoolers

I don't know about specific books for homeschooling, but I get all kinds of books from the library for the topics I'm studying. Or if the library doesn't have them I can find them inexpensively on ebay.

My favorite fictional read lately was Tad Williams' series called "Otherland". It was about virtual reality and how some people's lives are wrapped up in their personas online. It was a really good adventure.

Additional Resources

I have purchased some homeschooling books, but I have found that the library has a lot of books about it.

Something my husband and I have been doing lately is renting or checking out books and games to see if we like them a lot and then deciding if we are going to purchase them.

Other Books

'Homeschooling & the Voyage of Self Discovery' by David H. Albert is good. He's a very left-wing unschooler type (which isn't a bad thing) and he has a good sense of humor. He has a lot of topics that make you open your mind and think about school and learning.

Another book I liked was 'The Unschooling Handbook: how to use the whole world as your child's classroom' by Mary Griffith.

I like the idea of using any activity that is going on in our lives as a learning experience.

Yes there is!

We have put together a good guide here:

Re: Yes there is!

I bought the 'home school guide' and it gives a great guideline to follow. It's easy to refer to and helps to answer any questions you need answered about homeschooling.

Re: Yes there is!

Thanks I'll check it out.
